For Sri Sathya Sai Baba's Centennial Birthday Initiative Sri Sathya Sai group of Nebraska, are focusing their involvement with the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge program and a children's tutoring program.
For the Hope Lodge, the group provides free meals to cancer patients and their caregivers. Initially, they prepared and delivered meals, but after a tour and suggestions, they decided to cook meals directly at the lodge once a month. Their next planned meal for Labor Day includes carrot soup, garlic bread, peas pulao, and chickpea salad.Â
The second initiative involves tutoring children. One member shared their experience tutoring a student named Henry through Reading Partners, an online program aimed at improving reading skills. Despite facing challenges with Henry's disinterest, the experience taught the tutor patience. Later, the same member volunteered for online Sai Tutoring in Des Moines, Iowa, overseeing high school students tutoring a receptive student named Diana, which was a more positive experience. The author reflects on these contrasting experiences, recognizing that challenges and opportunities come in all forms, and expresses a desire for further training to better handle diverse student needs.
